Federal & DoD Documents: Specifications, Handbooks, Data Item Descriptions, Standards, Instructions, & Technical
This table contains hyperlinks to some of the more useful military virtual
libraries. The links above will enable you to get most of the publicly available
DoD forms, standards, manuals, handbooks, etc. System acquisition workers will
find some valuable information management websites.
In particular, the DLA "ASSIST" database contains virtually all Data Item Descriptions (DIDs), as well as military and federal standards. Also, the WPAFB site has an extremely comprehensive section on all aspects of data management.
Please note that many, if not most, military and government documents are
created and stored in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF). If you don't have
the free Adobe reader, which is required to open and read these documents, then
you can download it by clicking on the Adobe icon. Adobe format is also used by many state governments and private organizations. As you search for information on the web, you will find that at some point you will need the free Adobe Reader. Some people have still had trouble opening documents even after they downloaded the reader. Usually, this can be fixed by associating Adobe documents with the Adobe Reader; i.e., associate all ".pdf" files with the Adobe Reader. If this doesn't work, you should contact your IT staff for help.
Please let me
know if you find any out-of-date links. You can provide this information to the
Webmaster. Thank you.
